Welcome to The Band Academy
The Band Academy is a non-profit, government-supported organization, specialized in supporting and promoting outstanding and ambitious up-and-coming bands and artists from Denmark. The Band Academy grooms talented bands for a professional and commercial career through individually tailored programs – and with proven results.
The Band academy is located in Roskilde, Denmark and works with bands and artists all over Denmark. Some of the bands and artists have both the ambition and the potential for an international career. We support them through an international network of people and companies abroad.
Cooperation and coaches
The Band Academy cooperates with some of the most important stakeholders and professional partners in the Danish music industry – organizations, producers, musicians, managers, bookers, labels, media etc. Along with Smukfest (one of the biggest music festivals in Denmark) and DR (The Danish Broadcasting Cooperation), The Band Academy is a key partner in KarriereKanonen. KarriereKanonen – or Career Canon as it translates – is a yearly flagship competition that selects and supports the best new up-and-coming bands and artists in Denmark.
On the Band Academy’s list of coaches you will find musicians and producers from acts such as Ronni Vindahl (MØ), Aqua (Søren Rasted), Gangway (Henrik Balling), The Eclectic Moniker (Frederik Vedersø), Trentemøller (Marie Fisker), WhoMadeWho (Thomas Høffding), When Saints Go Machine (Silas Moldenhawer, Jonas Kenton), Turboweekend (Anders Stig Møller), VETO (Troels Abrahamsen), and many more.
The Band Academy works with bands and artists found through KarriereKanonen and with artists, who professionals in the industry recommend us to work with.
The USA based band- New Politics – went through a program at the Band Academy in 2009. Following they signed with SONY/RCA in New York, where they currently live and work, when they’re not touring with acts like 30 Seconds to Mars, Limp Bizkit and Pink. They were picked by MTV as a band to watch in 2011, and they have music featured on the soundtrack for the computer game Need for Speed.
In 2011 A Friend in London – the Danish contestants for Eurovision Song Contest – went through a program which prepared them for their TV show and for a career in Canada.
The Minds of 99 were one of the winners of the KarriereKanonen in 2013, and so they received coaching from the Band Academy. In just one year they have managed to get a record deal, publish their debut album, and gain solid airplay. They have been hailed as Denmark’s next big rock band, The Danish Arts Foundation has chosen their debut album as one of the best music works of 2014, and they have gotten up to several nominations at both Danish Music Awards, Gaffa Awards and Steppeulven.

The Band Academy’s approach
When tailoring an individual program for a band or artist, the Band Academy starts out with an artist analysis. We analyze their strengths and weaknesses and determine their needs and priorities. Based on the analysis, we recommend a sequence of targeted activities such as: business development, legal aid and rights protection, musical coaching, stage coaching, producer aid, co-writing sessions, network to labels, bookers, how to build up a fan base, how to release their own material, etc.
We subsequently match the band or artist with those professionals in the music business, whom we believe are the right people to optimize their potential. We recently matched an electro/pop band with a great producer, who gave a specific song just the right amount of love and care. The song is now ready for air play on national radio. In addition, we’ve just matched a very talented singer/songwriter with a manager, who will help and guide him in promoting his songs to the right audience.
The Band Academy – Outside Denmark
One of the bands who have been through a program at the Band Academy is now living in New York, another band in London, and one band has been on an extensive tour in Canada. The Band Academy has represented acts at festivals such as Transmusicales in France, South by Southwest in Texas and at the Canadian Music Week.
The Band Academy is always looking for professional networks and members for our Advisory Board. We aim to establish an advisory board of international experts which we can consult regarding specific Danish artists and in general regarding the individual markets.
